The primary idea of this memorial is to emphasize the lack of anything significant to look at, and in turn make people think instead about how they are interacting with the space a memorial should be. The actual structure would be a relatively standard plaza where people would normally view a monument, complete with benches, flagpoles, and a set of stationary binoculars for viewing the absence. The plaza itself would be a wide brick surface, with a deep hole in the center. The point of this monument is to memorialize the context we so often put monuments in, without the addition of any actual focusing structure.
